Hey team! Just a thought...
So as we all draw closer to the kick off date for the trip in June, are minds are beginning to scramble about trip preparation, right? Well, at least this is true for me! You're thinking about what to pack, what few clothing items to pack that you'll be wearing every week for the two month duration of the trip, money, sleeping items, how you're going to fit everything in one small bag... All of this is important, but while we're scrambling around with these simplistic preparations, are we forgetting to stop, step back, and prepare our hearts, minds, and spirits?
I recently just began journaling for this trip. It's a journal for prayers, pictures, thoughts, devotionals, etc. I've decided to begin going through Paul's various letters in the New Testament verse by verse and apply what he has to say to those churches to my life and my preparation for Peru. Paul was a missionary, so I figured I could learn a lot from his letters by really digging deep and journaling my thoughts about how I could apply or do what Paul is urging these churches to do.
Anyways, the point of this blog is not to draw glory to myself in any way and seem all holy; no, this is something I wanted to share with you as a means for you to draw closer to God and allow him to better prepare you for this mission trip. I actually struggle to find time to do devotions and this idea of journaling specifically for Peru was actually from my boyfriend, as an encouragement to help motivate me to do quiet times and to desire them. So as he encouraged me, so I encourage all of you. Regardless of how or what method or whatever, I just want to encourage you guys to really get into the Word and dig deep as we approach this trip. Let God work in you and better prepare you for His work in Peru.
Preparation is key when embarking on a journey. We always make sure to check every item off of our checklists and packing lists, double and triple check, plan ahead, and all that jazz. But don't get lost in the craziness of the physical preparation. Take time out of your day to dedicate to spiritual and mental preparation. Journal your thoughts, prayers... Sing at the top of your lungs declaring praise to our Savior... Dance... Write poems... Get in the Word... Whatever you do, just do something. When you give time to Him, He will bless you.
Be encouraged! :)
Have a blessed week...
Kristen
