Ok, so here we go! I will now attempt to answer your questions the best
that I can, as well as let you know a little bit more info.

1. Weather- It will be hot and very humid the majority of the time. But
there will be a few evenings when it gets pretty cold, also it will rain
quite a bit even though it is the beginning of the dry season. Make
sure to bring a good compressible sleeping bag that can keep you warm at
night while still not taking up your whole bag. Bring a poncho or light
rain jacket and a sweatshirt (you will prob be fine with a couple light
long sleeve shirts, that's what I do).

2. Malaria- As there is a threat of malaria in the area we will be in,
all of us will need to be on some type of anti-malaria meds. While you
can certainly bring bug repellent, but there are some drawbacks to it.
It is only effective for the first 15-30 min that you put it on, it
takes up a lot of room in your bag and deet is just not good for you.
What I've found to be most effective is to have some light pants, light
long sleeve shirts and socks and shoes to wear in the evening and
morning when the mosquitoes are out. I'm also going to bring a buff(with
bug shield) to protect my face and neck. However, some of my team last
summer found bug repellent to work for them, so to each there own. We
can get our mosquito nets there for cheap and then leave them there for
some of the Peruvians. You can bring one made for a hammock if you want,
but you don't really need it.

3. Sleeping- We will spend most of our nights sleeping on a concrete or
wood floor. You will need a good sleep mat and sleeping bag, or you will
be hatin life! Last summer, I forgot my mat and ended up sleeping with
only my bag between me and the concrete, it was rough. There will be a
few times that you will be able to sleep in a hammock, but it's not all
it's cracked up to be. Napping in a hammock is the best thing since
sliced bread, but sleeping in one for a whole night is miserable! Also, we can get hammocks there for $20 that would cost $75 here.

4. Money- We will have access to ATM's while we are in Iquitos and Nauta at the beginning of the trip and at the end, but not during the month in the middle. Anytime you plan on using an ATM in a foreign country, you should call your bank and let them know or they might put a hold on your card. If a card was stolen, we would figure out a way to communicate with your bank to put a hold on it. It's also a good idea to bring some cash that you can exchange right away. The amount depends on you (you will have to pay for snacks outside of regular meals, personal supplies, souvenirs, it's also cool to bring some money to tithe when we are at church). Anywhere from 200 and up should suffice.

5. Drinking water- It will be provided, so you don't need to worry about that. Just bring two water bottles in case you lose one.

6. Toilets- This will probably be a new experience for most of you, let's just say that we will have a place to do our business and leave it at that:) (It's part of the adventure of the jungle)

7. Shots- Questions about shots should be directed to Katie in admin. But I can say that rabies shots a very expensive and are not really necessary.

8. Clothing- Ladies should bring a few skirts with leggings for ministry. You won't have to wear them for everything and we will let you know when you do or don't need to wear them. No halter tops for ladies and no tank tops for anyone. Ladies shorts should be a couple inches past their finger tips when their arms are extended at their sides. Basically, there are enough problems with lust there and we don't need to contribute. T-shirts can have logos, just make sure they are appropriate.

9. Luggage- Since we will have limited space and don't really want to haul more bags than we need to around the jungle, each person can only bring ONE bag (preferably a hikers backpack). So we need to fit our personal stuff and some ministry supplies into one bag a piece. We will be bringing a couple extra bags that we can put peanut butter and some craft supplies in. Bags need to be under 50 lbs. and believe me you'll want to be lower than that! Most people tend to over pack and don't even end up using everything they packed, so pack light and plan to live simply:)

10. Peanut Butter- Everyone needs to bring one or two jars. It is a great source of protein and energy that we will need.

11. Crafts- If you have an idea(s) for a craft, feel free to bring the supplies needed for it. The kids will def love you for it!!

12. Vitamins/meds- You should def bring some kind of multivitamin. It will supplement the lack of vitamins in the food we will be eating and give you some extra energy. You should also bring whatever meds you think you will need (cold, head/body ache, anti-diarrhea, etc.)

13. Laundry Det.- You don't need it, we will get it there.

14. Batteries- You should bring plenty, because the ones you can get there are better used as an expensive paper weight. You can buy a solar charger that will charge AA batteries and devices with a USB plug (IPOD, etc.). If you get it, make sure to get rechargeable batteries too. We will not have any dependable outlets!

15. Communication- Will not be a problem for the first and last part of the trip. During the middle part of the trip however, we will only be able to communicate by satellite phone. The satellite phone will only be used to communicate with AIM so that they can post updates of what and how we are doing. So plan to not be communicating during that month. AIM will post blogs on our behalf so that your families are kept in the loop.

Hope this helps! I believe that covers all the questions that have been asked so far. Feel free to ask any other questions as they come up. I am also going to post an updated packing list soon, to make buying and packing supplies a little easier. I am so looking forward to meeting each of you! Here's to bringing the Kingdom everywhere we go!!
